Aging is inevitable, and signs often start to develop earlier than you would think. According to research, many areas of our body (including the skin) begin a downward spiral around the time we hit our mid-20s. As a leading plastic surgeon, Dr. Griffin understands the aging process and offers a range of cosmetic surgery procedures and non-surgical treatments to address cosmetic concerns at any stage of life.
In Dr. Griffin’s experience, the following procedures are the most popular with patients ages 35 to 50:
Treatment with Facial Injectables
For most people, signs of aging in the skin begin to appear in their mid-20s. Decreased collagen production impairs the skin’s ability to stay youthful-looking and elasticity begins to decline. Environmental factors like sun exposure or certain habits such as smoking, can accelerate the aging process, contributing to the development of lines and wrinkles. Patients who have good skin care habits, good genes and are not exposed to high levels of stress may not develop wrinkles until their late 30s or early 40s. However, this is not the case for everyone and most people start to consider facial injectables in their mid-30s.
Facial injectables, including Botox and dermal fillers, smooth facial wrinkles and lines and restore facial volume. Facial injectables deliver subtle, yet excellent results to combat early signs of aging. Although temporary, maintenance injections can keep a patient looking young for years to come. For these patients, Dr. Griffin offers a range of dermal fillers and Botox to eliminate crow’s feet, forehead lines, plump the lips and add volume to the face. The best facial injectable to use is determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the patient’s unique aesthetic concerns.
Facial injectables can keep a person looking great until their late 40s to early 50s, at which point a surgical procedure such as facelift is more appropriate to treat sagging and lax skin.
Breast Enhancement
A woman’s breasts may begin to look droopy or deflated in her mid to late 30s, especially in women who have had children and breastfed. Women in their 40s and 50s may also notice significant sagging in their breasts. Breast enhancement surgery, such as breast augmentation and/or breast lift, can help elevate the breasts higher on the chest and restore volume. Often, a combination of these procedures may be necessary to achieve excellent results. Some women, usually in their early 30s, simply want bigger, more voluptuous breasts and have breast implants placed to attain their desired look.
Body Contouring
As a person approaches his or her mid to late 30s, losing weight or maintaining a slim figure becomes much harder, even with exercise. In fact, many people (especially women) begin to notice stretch marks, cellulite and localized pockets of fat that are resistant to exercise and dieting. Several factors, including aging, childbearing and a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to a less-than-desirable figure that can no longer snap back into shape with crunches, jogging and other physical activities. For these patients, Dr. Griffin suggests liposuction surgery. Liposuction helps eliminate stubborn fat deposits and often, the sooner it is performed, the better the results. This is because people in their 30s and 40s still have some skin elasticity and may experience a skin tightening effect after liposuction. Although not impossible, this skin tightening effect is harder to achieve in older patients. Tummy tuck surgery and thigh lift are also common among patients in the 35 to 50 age group because they target body parts that may become difficult to slim and tone.
Mommy Makeover
Mommy makeover is an excellent procedure for women of any age who have had children. It is tailored to the individual woman to address the physical changes caused by her pregnancy, and can include two or more procedures – often breast augmentation and/or breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction. A mommy makeover helps a mother restore her attractive pre-pregnancy figure while enjoying the rewards of motherhood.
